About Me
Hello! My name is Marissa Barrett, and I'm a multimedia journalist and digital storyteller with a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communications from Johnson & Wales University. I currently work as a digital producer at WMUR 9 in Manchester, New Hampshire, where I create content designed to inform audiences and drive engagement across digital and social platforms. My background includes experience in broadcast, magazine, and digital publishing, shaped by internships with WPRI 12, Rhode Island Monthly, and Red Giant Media. At Johnson & Wales, I participated in a Directed Experiential Education course focused on marketing the university to prospective students and served as both Media and Entertainment Section Head and Social Media Coordinator for The Campus Herald, the school's student newspaper.

Digital Intern

In my role as a digital producer, I help ensure WMUR's website and social media platforms are updated daily with timely, engaging content for our audience. My responsibilities include creating social graphics, editing and publishing short-form video, and writing web stories based on broadcast coverage to keep content fresh and current. I also contribute to the weekday Daybreak newsletter and craft push alerts to promote high-interest stories.
As a travel writing intern, I wrote informative articles for We3Travel.com about destinations, travel experiences, and planning tips to help readers prepare for their next trip. I worked closely with the site's creator, Tamara Gruber, to develop stories tailored to her audience, while also supporting SEO efforts aimed at driving more traffic to the website.
During my time as an editorial intern, I wrote blog posts, fact-checked content for the publication and assisted editors with a variety of projects. Along the way, I had the opportunity to have my work featured in the November, December, January and February editions of the magazine, while also collaborating with the special edition editor on stories for the 2024 Engaged magazine.
As a digital media intern, I wrote breaking news articles, selected video footage for stories and updated website content to support timely coverage. The role gave me hands-on experience working under pressure, strengthened my understanding of fast-paced newsroom operations and helped build the digital storytelling and deadline-driven skills I use today.
